Bålsta is situated 50 km north of Stockholm, quietly surrounded by lake Mälaren and open plains. This excellent geographical location and 45 minutes proximity to Stockholm, Uppsala, Västerås, and Arlanda have made Bålsta a popular place to live and visit. Here there is an abundance of natural scenic views of the countryside with long natural paths along the beautiful gurgling bays of lake Mälaren. Whether you like grilling sausages over an open fire, cross-country skiing, picking mushrooms, or bird watching, there are plenty of good opportunities for relaxing excursions and nature experiences. In Bålsta there is also a wide range of restaurants and shops.
We are in Old Bålsta and only 5 minutes by car from Bålsta centrum. Here you are close to both activities, restaurants, shops and public transport. You can take the commuter trains from Bålsta to Stockholm and SL to the rest of the country.
It is also a quick and easy 35-45 minutes commute to get to Arlanda and Bromma international Airport by both bus and car.
Hjälstaviken is only twelve minutes from Bålsta Studio Houses. It is one of the finest bird lakes in Sweden. Here you can get close to the birdlife amongst reedbeds in their natural habitats.

It is considered one of Europe's foremost baroque castles. It is one of the largest private palaces ever built in Sweden. From our accommodation, it takes about 20 minutes by car to Skokloster.

One of them is Yttergran. It is one of the smallest churches in the country. It was built originally as a towerless greystone church during the 11th century. It boasts remarkably well-preserved wall paintings by Albertus Pictor, a famous late medieval Swedish painter.

There are about 30 rune stones preserved in Håbo municipality, including the almost three-meter high rune stone in Varpsund with inscriptions from the middle of the 10th century.

In Bålsta, the artist, designer, and film director Lasse Åberg has a museum. His museum is in an old red barn from the 19th century. There you can see Lasse's entire collection of Disney objects and pop art.

Bålsta has perhaps the best open cross-country ski trails in the entire Mälardalen. By car from our accommodation, it takes only five minutes to Kvarnkojan and Granåsen's artificial snow track. In the same area, there are also two slalom slopes, Teknikbacken.

Bro Park is a thoroughbred horse racing venue located in Upplands-Bro municipality, which is only twelve minutes from Bålsta Studio Houses.

In Övergran, about a mile west of Bålsta is Övergran's farm. The farm has about twenty Icelandic horses and offers riding tours and courses.

A stone's throw from our accommodation is Bålsta Tennis Club & Padel. There are both indoor and outdoor courts.

Vibyspåret is an urban woodlands recreational area with an 18-hole frisbee golf course. There is also an outdoor gym as well as a 5-kilometres's lit up running track.

Vattunöden is a beautiful nature reserve with cliffs, swimming coves, and old natural forests. The place also offers good hiking opportunities.

A couple of miles from Bålsta is the picturesque and charming small town of Sigtuna. Sigtuna is Swedens oldest preserved city dating from the 11th century.
